Hair does a lot for us, so we should do a lot for it in return. Not only to keep it healthy, but as a way of pampering ourselves and indulging in a little self care at the end of the day. If you need some help with that, here’s some inside tips for you.
Switching Up Your Hairstyle
Our hair does big things for how we look, changing both our own and other people’s perceptions of our face shape, the apple of our cheeks, and it shadows our bone structure. Whether you like your topknots or free style shoulder length dos, giving it a switch every now and then can impress everyone around us with how good we look.
If you have straight hair, and you’re looking for ways to give it a good curl, make a curl with your hands and then wrap it in foil, pressing a straightener to it after this. The foil conducts the heat better and keeps the hair curled as it flows back down your shoulder. It’s a better way to keep those curls in the whole day. A dash of hairspray on top is extra security!
One very big decision you can make is after you’ve mastered quite a few looks and are rocking your new bob style or pixie cut, you can donate the hair to a wig maker. Think of your clean kept hair going to someone who wants their confidence back after suffering from a disease. It’s a lot more personal for you and does something more in the way of direct action than simply donating some money to a charity.
The Proper Way to Dye
If you want to dye your hair, the best thing to do is to go to a hairdresser and have it done professionally. This leaves complete coverage and healthy sheen across the whole of your scalp, and means you leave with a bounce in your step and a good gradient of color if you like the idea of dark fading into something lighter towards the ends of your hair.
However, if you want to dye your hair at home, go right ahead! Just make sure you know what you’re doing. It might be a good idea to have someone else around to monitor how well you’re doing with the cutting and coloring. First of all, pick up more than one box from the store, as you don’t want to accidentally run out of color halfway through the process; that doesn’t do anyone any favors! Hair thickness and length all factor in here of course, so it might be cheaper for your time and money to bulk buy.
Another habit that’s good to get into for dying your hair is to test it first on some pieces you’ve either been able to cut off, or some at the back of your head covered up by the rest of your hair. If you don’t test a dye it may come out a completely different color than the one on the box, and subsequently the one you wanted, and that leaves you with a hit to the confidence and never wanting to dye your hair again after this!
Keeping it Healthy
There’s a few rules that come into hair care. If you’re looking to get glossy and entirely non-frizzy locks, you may be waiting a while, as it can take time and practice. However, it’s not a lost cause, and you can start today! Take inspiration from that friend we know with the good hair, and pamper your locks a little with some products and new wash routines.
Make sure you only wash your hair two to three times a week. It’s an age-old adage, but you should never wash your hair once a day. This dries it out and turns it unhealthy very quickly, despite the cleanliness we feel. Your hair has oils it needs to distribute and bathe in that are secreted from your scalp, and washing these away isn’t actually doing you any favors once again. Try and stand the slight greasiness for as long as you can, as this is the best option for dry hair and a flaky scalp.
Your lifestyle choices also come into account here, so it might be a good idea to look at them if you feel something is wrong. Plenty of foods exist out there for healthy hair, usually ones rich in Vitamin E, such as nuts, seeds, and spinach. Mix these into your main diet and have meals that promote good hair health just by looking at them!
You can even get these vitamins in your dessert as well with foods such as greek yogurt, which contains Vitamin B5, promoting healthy blood flow towards the scalp, making the hair grow faster and a lot healthier.
Going for More Serious Treatment
If you’ve tried everything above, and your hair still doesn’t do what you want it to, or it’s still damaged or doesn’t grow properly, there are more medical treatments for you to consider. This is quite a big decision, but if it works in your favor and gives you better self-esteem, it’s usually worth it. It doesn’t have to be expensive either!
For example, you have laser treatment at your disposal, and that doesn’t have to be as painful or take as long as it sounds. You don’t have to go into hospital, which may seem a little surprising. Do your research before you decide, and look into services like capillus for more information about laser treatment and how easy it can be to administer at low levels for healthy growth.
There’s a lot you can do for your hair, some things good and some things bad. Make sure you make the right decisions with a little research and some practice, you’ll have the style and shade you crave in no time! Even if you do make a mistake, it’s not irreversible, and that’s the best way to learn after all.
