Winter is a real pain when it comes to our beauty regime. The cold air does all sorts of things to us, including making our hair frizz up, drying out our skin, and creating chapped lips. It’s the final thing I want to discuss today, and if you enjoy this article, I might just follow it up with two others targeting the other issues.
For now, enjoy these easy ways to deal with chapped lips during winter:
Use Lipstick With Friendly Ingredients
Contrary to what you might think, lipstick won’t make your chapped lips even worse. There are two main reasons behind this. Firstly, as you can see on Gallany.com, some lipsticks include ingredients like beeswax, which can help moisturize your lips and prevent them from drying out. Also, be on the lookout for ingredients like shea butter and macadamia oil, as they also help condition your lips. Secondly, lipstick stops you from licking your lips, which will dry them out. When you get saliva on your lips, it dries really quickly, causing them to crack and become chapped. Obviously, you don’t want to lick lipstick, so you stop yourself and save your lips!

Always Carry Around Some Lip Balm
Lip balm is specifically designed to help people with chapped lips. It will soothe the area, and provide moisture that your lips are lacking. There are loads of different types of lip balm out there that claim to do the best job. For me, I say look for one with aloe vera as this is a natural ingredient that’s proven to help nourish your skin. Oh, and stay away from flavored lip balms too. I know, I know, the flavor is half the fun when it comes to lip balms. However, it goes back to the point I just made about licking your lips. A flavored balm encourages licking, which will only serve to dry your lips out even more.
Cover Your Mouth When You Go Out
Lastly, protect your lips from further harm by covering them when you go out. The best way to do this is by wearing a scarf and lifting it, so it covers your mouth. It’s so easy, and it stops the cold air from smacking against your precious lips. Plus, as a benefit, it’s an excuse to wear your scarf more often! I suggest you maybe don’t put any lip balm on until you’re back inside, just so you avoid getting scarf fluff stuck to your lips, or ruining your scarf with a stain. Then, when you’re inside, you can use your lip balm to get its full effect.
Chapped lips are a serious issue for most people during the winter months. It can ruin our self-esteem as we become really conscious of our lips. As such, we overcompensate with too much lipstick, which just makes us look worse. Heed my advice, and you will get rid of those chapped lips in record time. Not only that, but you’ll also protect them from further chapping.
