Getting paid for blogging is a wonderful thing. Some people will say you shouldn’t blog just because you want to make money, which to an extent is true because your passion won’t show, but I believe you should try to make money so you can do what you love full time. Blogging is my biggest passion. It’s fun, it allows me to be creative, and it connects me to a whole world of people that I would not normally be connected to.
Before you can keep track of your finances, you need to have some income coming in. I recommend creating a Paypal account and/or a separate checking account to accept payment from businesses. You’ll also want a contract template/invoice template for when you’re negotiating with brands. The best thing I did was join Style Collective because there are so many great resources they have to offer. Not only can you get both of those template there for free, but they also have a rate calculator so you can make sure you’re charging the right amount.

Each blogger should have a ‘Media Kit’. A media kit is usually a pdf that describes who you are, what your demographics are, what your statistics are, and what services you offer/how much you charge for services. I’ve created a template where you can just input your information in the blanks and you’re set to go for only $5! Purchase it here:

Another way to make money is by placing ads on your site. This isn’t the biggest money maker, but hey, everything adds up! Google Adsense is a great way to monetize your site.
Once you start getting paid, you’ll want to keep track of it for tax season. I’m not an accountant nor can I legally give you advice on that topic, but I recommend keeping all receipts and talking to your accountant about what you can/cannot write off. You’ll want an income/expense log so you can keep track of what you’re making and what you’re spending.

Now you’re ready to run a business and make some money! Stay on top of your spending, and make sure you’re putting money back into your blog (design, product, or whatever your business needs are. Spend a dollar to make a dollar!). If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out in the comments or message me on Instagram.
