If you’re reading this, you’re probably either going to Bermuda or are in Bermuda already. If that’s the case, I’m jealous. If you’re just reading this wishing you were chilling on the beach in Bermuda, join the club! I have a lot of great recommendations and hacks that you need to know. To any of you who have been before, if you have any must see places or hacks, leave them in the comments below so everyone can see! Also, I recommend checking the weather before you go to Bermuda because if you’re like me and assumed it’s warm all of the time like a tropical island, you are wrong! We went in April and it was around 70 degrees but the sun definitely made it warm enough for the beach. I’m not sure what it’s like the rest of the year but it can’t hurt to check and be prepared!
Food & Drinks
To those of you who come to Bermuda on a cruise, you’ll likely dock in the Dockyard area (There is also a docking area in Hamilton but we docked in the Dockyard area). Perfect for you because you’ll be right next to the country’s only floating bar, Calico Jacks. Not only is this a great bar for drinking, but there is a plank off the side where you can dive into the crystal blue waters! There are a few awesome breweries in the Dockyard area you need to try as well. The Frog and Onion Pub is Bermuda’s most unique pub with craft local brews from Dockyard Brewing Company and has been around since 1992.I recommend the Whale of Wheat beer if they have it. After leaving the Dockyard area, The Swizzle Inn is a go to destination. It also happens to be right across the street from The Crystal Caves! You HAVE to order a jug of the Rum Swizzle because it is super delicious. This is Bermuda’s oldest and most famous pub with something for everyone.
SIGHTSEEING
Going back to The Crystal Caves, this is 100% a must see. They may try to tell you it’s easier to just buy the excursion because it’s hard to find, but honestly, if you just get on the bus and ask for Crystal Caves, they take you right to the front. Use the bus map that you can find at any information center to make sure you get on the right line. HACK #1: Chris and I had an hour and a half wait so we were able to buy our tickets first and then walk over to the Swizzle Inn to enjoy a meal and a drink. Better than sitting on a picnic bench waiting! Another must see is Horseshoe Bay Beach which is Bermuda’s most popular pink sand beach. If you keep walking past the end of the main area of the beach, that’s when you get to explore the rocks and coves. Plus, they have a bar and mini take out restaurant on the beach so you’re set for the day! HACK# 2: If you go to the information center right in Dockyard, you can get a two day transportation pass for only $30. You can use this for the ferry, bus, or any public transportation system.
