Hi all,
I asked on Twitter if I should write a ‘life lessons’ post, and a lot of you said yes! So here it is! These are things I have learned throughout the years and things that could benefit you from hearing as well. Let me know your top life lesson!
- Accept Your Mistakes – We all make them, we need to accept it. Taking responsibility Β is the best way to make it better.
- Find Your Passion– Take time experimenting and trying new things. You’ll come across something you love. That’s going to be a good contribution to your happiness.
- Be Yourself– Finding out who you are is the most important. I recommend getting out of your comfort zone, maybe living in a new place. Or living on your own. It gives you a chance to figure out who you are or who you want to be.
- Move On– You are going to have friendships or relationships that don’t work out. It’s important that you find a way to move on and not let it hold you back. Accept that people change and we all move at different paces. Don’t let them slow you down.
- Work-Life Balance– This is something I’ve always struggled with. I’ve always been a workaholic. I have a really hard time balancing work, my blog, and my social life. It’s important to find a balance.
- Learn Your Priorities– Bouncing off of the last one, learn your priorities. This will help you find a balance and figure out what’s most important to you. Make time for that.
- Be Open To Change– Your teens and 20’s are usually when a lot of change happens for you. School, College, Work, Friends, etc. Be open to change and just know everything will work out the way it’s supposed to.
- Curiosity Killed The Cat– Don’t focus so much on what’s going on with other people. Just be you and focus on yourself, and everything else will fall into place. If something happens, you can react to it. But you don’t need to dig for something.
- Be There For One Another– You never know what someone is going through, and it’s important to be there for others. Almost like the show 13 Reasons Why, you just never know what can change someone’s life.
- Support Each Other– This almost bounces off of the last one. It’s so important to support each other. I have so many friends that have not shared my posts, and I also probably have friends who never even read my blog. It’s important to find people in your life who will support you, and make sure you support them to.
- Relationships Are a Two Way Street– This goes for relationships, friendships, or even acquaintances. You should not be putting in all of the effort. If that’s the case, it’s time to go back to Step 4 and move on! You don’t have to completely move on and end it, but just back away and give someone who gives you the effort more of your time. They deserve it!
- Don’t Make a Permanent Decision on Temporary Feelings– If you’re really upset, do not make a decision right away. Take some time until you calm down and figure it out, and come back to it.
- No Regrets– You can spend so much time regretting things or you can realize that you can’t change the past, but you can work on the future. Spend time learning from your mistakes.
- Learn How To Budget– Wow I wish I knew this. I mean I always ‘knew’ how…but that doesn’t mean I did it. I’m not saying don’t spend money on experiences and everything. But learn how to put something away in a savings so if something happens down the road, you have something to fall back on.
- Travel– So this is something you should spend money on! Get out there while you can. I can’t describe the feeling I get after going to a new place. So motivational.
- Find People Who Share Your Interests– It’s a great thing when you find people who love the same hobby as you do. For me, it’s fashion. Stick around others who are motivated and it will help keep you going. If you’re spending time around people who aren’t motivated as the same rate as you are, it could hold you back. Again, don’t cut them out, just split your time the right way.
- Spend Time On Yourself– For a long time I was so focused on constantly being busy, having fun with people and working. I didn’t realize how important it was to spend time alone. It helped me become independent and take care of myself.
- Do What You Want– Don’t let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t go after your dream or you shouldn’t do something just because they wouldn’t. We’re all different and that’s what creates successes. Go for it!
- Give People Chances, But Not Too Many– People do deserve second chances. I’m a firm believer in that. However, how many chances should you give? To me, once someone repeats a mistake, it becomes a choice. Up to your discretion of course.
- Relationships Are About Making Sacrifices– You’re going to have to learn how to make sacrifices for others. Also, there will be times where people make sacrifices for you.
- Not Everyone Needs Your Advice– This is a big one for me. I love to be Dr. Phil. Probably because I spend a lot of nights on Pinterest under the ‘Quotes’ section, haha. Sometimes we just need to listen without giving out input. This will be my resolution starting now. π
- Accept Your Flaws– Yes, I thought of this after just writing my own. But it is important to know what your flaws are. That’s the first step to working on them. Everyone has them throughout their life. Life is just us constantly growing as a person.
- You’re Going to Learn a Lot More– This is not it. There’s a lot more to learn out there. Listen to people, ask questions, and take notes. It’s good to hear things from other people to get their perspective. It helps to open up the mind.
- Be Humble and Kind– This is probably my favorite one. Some people are just so miserable and rude. Again, I get it that people can be going through stuff and cope in their own ways. But that’s not okay to treat people poorly who do not deserve it. (This is the customer service side of me typing). Also, I love that song by Tim McGraw.
- Keep Pushing, Don’t Give Up!– Keep going. You can do anything you set your mind to as long as you have the passion for it. Ask for help when you need it, learn from other’s who are doing the same thing, and don’t be afraid of failure.
Well, these are some of the lessons that I wish I could have taught myself over the years. What are some of your favorite lessons that you wish you told your younger self? I’m curious to hear more! Let me know in the comments or on any of my social media –> @jennaleeannllc
Talk to you all soon!
