8 Life Lessons Everyone Should Know

I know I usually post about fashion or fashion-related topics, but I really think this post could be helpful. Reading these types of posts usually helps me when I’m in a tough spot, and I’m hoping it may do the same for some of my readers.
Below are a list of the most important life lessons I have yet to learn, and I know there are many more coming my way!

1.) Stay true to yourself. This is the most important thing in my mind. This goes for everything, work, relationships, etc. Just know that everything will play out a certain way, and if you stay true to yourself, you won’t be exhausted trying to be someone else. Stick to your own style, whether your parents or friends like it or not. Keep your personality just the way it is. Follow your dream, because it’s YOU who will be living it for the rest of your life.
2.) Don’t keep people in your life who don’t deserve to be there. Anyone who really knows me, knows that I can be a pushover. I easily forgive, and a lot of times when people don’t deserve to be forgiven. I have learned that there are so many people in my life who I keep around because I have known them for a long time, or because I feel the need to. Recently I’ve discovered that letting go of those people really lifted a weight off my shoulders. Not everyone deserves a spot in your life, there will be someone else waiting for a spot to open that could benefit you a lot more.
3.) Be nice. This may seem general, but it’s true. You never know who you’re talking to, or who you may need in the future. When I did my internship at Michael Kors, I was in the elevator with the CEO and I had NO idea. We ended up having a nice conversation and I later found out who he was. Also, if someone isn’t being nice to you, kill them with kindness. I’ve been a waitress for a few years now, and I’ve learned that how you react to rude people, reflects the kind of person you are. I have had other customers admire me for how I handle certain situations.
4.) “You don’t really know what you’ve got until it’s gone”. Well I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but you do know what you have, you just never thought you’d lose it. A lot of this relates to relationships. You get so comfortable around someone, you sometimes test the waters too much. I myself am guilty of doing this. Do I regret it? Completely. But now I know for my upcoming relationship, just enjoy your time together. Happiness is the best thing in life, and it’s so amazing when you can share it with someone. If you have that right now, don’t lose it.
5.) Curiosity killed the cat. We all know this saying. Sometimes mystery is a good thing. What you don’t know can’t hurt you. Just let things play out the way it’s planned. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. And if one door closes, another one will open. Don’t worry.
6.) Don’t make a decision with unstable emotions. By this I mean, don’t make a permanent decision when you’re angry, or sad, or very happy. If you’re in an argument, just wait before answering because chances are you will say something you don’t mean to say. Take a breather, go for a drive or walk!
7.) Respect yourself. This goes along with number 1, and it should be up by number 1 too! (I guess I’m just too lazy and focused to change the post around…kidding of course)! Anywho, respect is the BIGGEST thing to me. I think respect is a lot harder to earn back than trust. Respect is all about how you handle yourself, how you handle situations, and what you do to represent the person you are. If people respect you, there’s no better feeling in the world, I promise.
8.) Be there for one another. This is a concept that I’m still not sure about. I don’t understand why people aren’t more willing to help each other? We are all part of a community. There is always benefits to helping someone else out. People have such negativity towards other people trying to make a name for themselves. I get it, there will always be “haters” out there. But why can’t we just help each other succeed? This road goes both ways, and can benefit both people. Check out my post where I get more in depth about this topic! Why Not Help Each Other Out?

Of course everyone learns lessons along the way, and I’m excited to see which new lessons I learn. These are only 8 of the things I’ve learned, but being the youngest of 4 kids, I have definitely written down a books worth. I always love hearing new advice so definitely leave your best tips in the comments below for my readers to read! Also, tweet them to me @JennaLeeAnnLLC!
Hope this helped at least one person out there!
