OOTD: Pastel Blue Stripes

OOTD: Pastel Blue Stripes

First off, can you tell I love brick walls? With 4th of July coming I wanted to do an OOTD that could be worn for it, but a more subtle outfit. With these pastel blue and white stripes and the dark blue denim, all you need to do is add a red lip or red shoes and you’re good to go! Also, I’m obsessed with the hi-neck trend. Hope you enjoy. ๐Ÿ™‚

2016 Summer Trends

2016 Summer Trends

Can we just talk about the fact that jennaleeann.com finally got a makeover! I’m so excited to have designed/customized this website myself. It’s reflects me a lot more than my old site, which I didn’t get to design. I’m a lot more of a modern/contemporary gal. Which is why street style is my go-to. I finally made the switch from Blogger to WordPress. Let me know if you want me to write a post on why I did and what the process is like. Anyway, let me know in the comments or on my social media what you think, or if you have any suggestions!

I hope your Monday goes by fast. Get some coffee, and push through! I asked y’all on Twitter what you wanted to see for a post today and majority chose Summer Trends. Keep this list with you for when you go shopping. Happy second week of summer!

  1. Bohemian– This trend is all over the place. The ‘Coachella’ , beach-y, laid back inspired looks are a big hit. You can walk into any store and see the flow-y clothing with the crochet detailing.
  2. Bell Sleeve and Cold Shoulder Tops– Combined? Even better. These mostly tie into the Bohemian look, but add flattering detailing. It’s a very feminine look and can go for almost any occasion. You can find these style made in fancy dresses, or just casual crop tops. You just can’t go wrong.
  3. Mauve and Pastel– Let me just start off by saying how happy I am these are the trend colors of the season. I already painted my nails mauve. And bought a pastel blue Kate Spade wallet. You can’t go wrong when shopping if you fill your cart with these colors.
  4. Chokers– Yes…they made a comeback from a decade ago! Chokers are seen everywhere and styled in so many ways. Go buy yourself one, and watch YouTube videos to see how to style them!

These are the most popular trends I have seen around the fashion world. What are some trends you’ve found? And which is your favorite?

In case you didn’t know, I’m now posting every Monday and Thursday. Follow me on social media to keep up with daily updates! @JennaLeeAnnLLC

7 Things Everyone In Their Early 20’s Needs To Hear

7 Things Everyone In Their Early 20’s Needs To Hear

I’ve learned so many things these past couple of years. I’m a 23 year old in the middle of growing up and letting go of my past, and I’m not the only one. Growing up isn’t easy… And I don’t mean growing up as in getting a job, or a place of your own(which let’s be real, paying bills isn’t easy sometimes either)… But really growing up. Your mind, your attitude, your persona. I’ve been struggling with that lately, and here’s what I’ve learned, and have been taught, to make this a little bit easier.

1. If You’re Not Losing Friends, You’re Not Growing Up ย

Clichรฉ, maybe. But it’s true. You don’t need to hang on to relationships that don’t better you, or that you feel you have to work extra hard on. It’s okay to let people go that you never thought you would. Is it easy? No. But you just have to keep reminding yourself why you’re doing it. Length of relationship, or friendship, is no excuse. If they’re toxic to you, or you’re growing at different paces, let it go. It doesn’t mean you have to completely stop talking to that person, or you can never hangout. But learn not to depend on them as much. Part of growing up is learning to depend on yourself.

2. Learn What You Love

Learning what you love is the key to happiness. If it’s sitting on your couch watching Netflix, then do that. If it’s going on adventures, then do that. Learn to love doing it alone, because if you can do that, you’ll be so much happier. It’s time to become more independent. This doesn’t mean do everything alone…I’m not saying that at all. But there are going to be times in your life where you either just want to be alone, or no one’s available. These are the times you need to be comfortable with being alone. Learning what you love to do will help you get through those times, or any other rough times you’re having. For me, it’s blogging. When I’m having a rough time, I lay in bed and just type my little heart out. I don’t always post it, but getting it out feels good for me. So what feels good for you? Do it.

3. Give People Chances, But Not Too Many

It’s good to trust people. It’s good to give them a chance to impress you. But be careful how many you give them. And remember, actions speak louder than words. If they’re doing nothing to show you they’re trying, why is it worth the pain of keeping them in your life? Meet new people, try new things, and be open. Just know what you’re looking for, and know your self-worth. This will help you to not settle when it comes to anything/anyone making you happy. How many chances do you think is too many?

4. Money, Money, Money…

This is your time to start saving. Now, this is coming from a girl who can’t keep a penny in her bank account because of the new shoes and clothes. But really, it’s time to get serious. Start a retirement savings, start investing, start SAVING. Put a certain amount of your paycheck aside each week, and watch the savings grow. Down the road when you want the house with the bigger closet, or the nicer car, you will have a better chance of getting it. And who doesn’t want to go traveling? Save a certain amount and then travel the world. Do something to reward yourself for saving! Of course don’t use all of the money since that would defeat the purpose haha but you know what I mean. Also, it’s good for emergencies. You never know when something will come up. It’s time to depend on yourself.

5. Accept Your Mistakes

Everybody makes mistakes. You’re only in the wrong if you don’t learn from them. Mistakes make you into a better person. With all of the mistakes I’ve made in my best, I have better knowledge of how to handle situations. When you make a mistake, don’t go crazy and get upset…just acknowledge it, and accept it. Take responsibility for what you did wrong. Nobody’s going to hate you if you take responsibility and apologize. Now this goes back to giving people chances, but not too many. If you make mistakes over and over again, you can expect larger consequences. But just learn from it, so you don’t get to that point.

6. Don’t Give Up

I can’t tell you how many days I had just sitting down thinking the worst. I didn’t get the promotion I wanted, or I got in a really big fight with my friends, or the guy I like doesn’t like me back. I don’t know, whatever it may be isn’t worth giving up. One of my favorite quotes, not sure who said it, is “Your Life Only Gets Better When You Do. Work On Yourself And The Rest Will Follow.” Think of that when you’re feeling down, and just know that an arrow can only move forward by being pulled backwards. I’ve gone through some really hard times that have made the normal hard times even harder. But don’t give up. Keep working hard at your job to get that promotion. Keep meeting new people until you find the right group to make you happy. Find a relationship that gives you the butterflies and makes you want to be better. Life is good.

7. Find Out Who You Are

Tying together everything I just talked about…You need to find out who you are. Who do you want to be? Independent, Loving, Caring, Strong…Whatever it is, figure it out. Figure it out, and then stick to it with everything you go through. You don’t need to define yourself as something specific…But just knowing who you are and who you want to be, will help guide you to the future that will make you happy. Be happy with who you are, and the right people will come along!
Work on this…Having a job your passionate about, not just working for money. Having friends who truly care about you, not ones that only think about themselves. Being in a relationship where you trust one another, not restrict one another. Being with family who you love, and who cares about you the most. All of these things are so important to learn at a younger age, to set up for a good future. But most importantly, don’t think too far into the future. Do what makes you happy now. You naturally will grow and change every year. You cannot plan out your life and tell yourself what will make you happy in 20 years from now. Be happy everyday, and you will have less regrets later in life.

I’m so excited for this post because I partnered together with such an amazing company! Banana Republic. ๐Ÿ™‚

I first want to thank Banana Republic for giving me this opportunity to represent their brand on my blog.

I also want to thank my AMAZING photographer- Katherine Pagan. She is seriously the most talented photographer, please check out her website!ย www.katherinepagan.com

Banana Republic sent me a denim on denim look for today’s outfit. I decided to give two options! I paired the first outfit just the way they sent it to me, chosen by their stylist. For the second outfit, I substituted white denim. I also changed up the shoes. Enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

So You Want To Work In The Fashion Industry?

So You Want To Work In The Fashion Industry?

Hello everyone!

I have been receiving questions on Twitter about my life in the fashion industry and how to get into the field. While there’s no special equation, I figured I would share my journey and let you guys know what each experience taught me. This will be helpful for anyone looking to enter the industry!

My experiences in order (minus a couple part time sales positions at retailers):

My Online Boutiqueย

www.jennaleeann.com was not always a blog ya know. It started out as an online clothing store. I sold tops, bottoms, and outerwear. I started my business when I was 19. Read all about my businessย HEREย . If you’re interested in a separate post on the step by step process to opening an online store, share this post and let me know in the comments! My top lesson learned from this experience was to not bite off more than you can chew. I was in college when I started my business, so I wasn’t able to put all of my time into it. So I sold it and turned the domain into a blog. This is a great job for someone with an entrepreneur mindset who has a passion for fashion. ย You are able to work for yourself, and do things your own way. It really is your own creative space. You are able to become your own buyer and work with wholesale companies or manufacturers. ย Being a retail buyer is always something I have been interested in. Being able to be your own buyer is an amazing job! I was able to go to trade shows and meet talented designers from all over! ย You own this job if you are business savy, have an eye for trends, good with technology, and are motivated. You HAVE to be motivated to work for yourself.

Michael Kors HQ Internship

Oh how I love internships. They are the BEST way to gain access into the industry and build your resume. I was a design intern at the Michael Kors HQ in Manhattan in 2013. I was the only business major on the team, so I was able to spread my wings more than most. I learned about production as well as how the company keeps track of their finances and expense reports! Corporate is such a different world than working in the stores themselves. Everyone comes in, has a job to do, and then leaves. My top lesson learned from this experience was to pay attention to what others are doing and network your butt off. It’s really important to learn from others when doing an internship. Your co-workers are your teachers. And you want to stay connected with them. It’s really important to leave a good impression after your internship for future opportunity. You own this job if you are good at multitasking, are a quick learner, and if you’re task oriented.ย

Fashion Blogger

This one is dear to my heart because of course it’s my hobby, and my dream career. I love blogging more than anything. Though I don’t get to do it often…when I do, it calms me. Fashion blogging is an AWESOME way to build your own brand in the fashion industry. I do everything from OOTDs, to maintaining social media, to working with online clothing stores or other bloggers, going to fashion shows, conferences, campaigns, and so on! You don’t need to be a big time blogger to do it. I love my blog, and I love my followers. My top lesson learned so far from this experience is to be consistent with posting and be true to yourself. I am the WORST with being consistent (hey, at least I’m honest?). With building my career at Nordstrom, and trying to maintain a social life…it’s not easy to post a lot! To be honest, the cold weather has kept me inside as well (yay for Spring!). But you need to be consistent in order to really build your brand. Also, be yourself and stick to it. Do not work with companies that don’t reflect you. It will confused your readers and it’s not sincere. If you’re looking to just blog for a quick dollar, you won’t get far. You own this job if you are self-motivated, tech-savy, creative, punctual, and personable. Interested in starting a blog? Check out my post on how to become a ‘successful’ blogger HEREย .

Nordstrom- Retail Management

Welcome to my current job (along with blogging). I started at Nordstrom in 2015 as a retail management intern. The internship teaches you all about becoming a manager and how to grow a team and run a successful business. After two months of being an intern, I was promoted to Assistant Department Manager of Studio in their Nashville location. It taught me a lot about moving away on my own. Read all about my Nashville storyย HEREย . After almost 6 months of that role, I was then transferred back to CT to take on two departments! I’m now Assistant Department Manager of the Handbags and Accessories departments! It’s a lot of work (as is all retail), but it’s such a good feeling. My top lesson learned from this career so far is to be open to new opportunity and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Also, your team is your most important asset, so treat them with the same respect you expect from them. I went to school and graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration concentration in Management. I learned all about how to run a business and how to grow. However, real life experience is what everyone needs. You own this job if you are a dedicated worker, personable and customer service oriented, are a quick learner and can adapt to many different situations quickly, knowledgeable about business, and love fashion. Fashion is constantly evolving, and you need to be able to keep up. It’s a fun game. ๐Ÿ™‚

Whether is a store, a corporate office, or your own business you’re interested in, please follow your dreams.

I would love to hear your fashion experiences and tips in the comments! If you have any questions about anything please always feel free to e-mail me at jennaleeannllc@yahoo.com or tweet meย @JennaLeeAnnLLC !

As always, please follow me on social media to keep up with my daily challenges in the industry! I hope this helped some of you!
